عنوان انگلیسی Language Screening in Toddler With Cleft Lip and Palate: A pilot study
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Introduction: Children with cleft lip and palate are at risk for speech and language disorders. Early speech and language intervention helps the children to advance their speech and language abilities. This study aimed to determine whether language abilities in toddler with oral cleftswoulddiffer with those of non clefts children. Materials and Methods: The study included 2 groups children at the age of 12-24 months. The toddlers with cleft lip and palate as a group children with orofacial anomalies were born at the Shahid Akbar-abadi hospital during the March  2017 and March 2019 in Tehran. The parents  of  noncleft children and those of with oral clefts answered the questions of the verbal & non-verbal communication screening checklist for Persian-speaking children. Results: The results showed significant differences  between the scores of the receptive-expresive language achieved by toddlers  with clefts and non clefts peers aged 12-18 months (P< 0.05) and aged 18-24 months (P< 0.05) but the results showed no significant differences between the nonclefts toddlers and those with clefts in non-verbal communication (P>0.05 ). Conclusion: Thetoddlers with orofacial anomalies needs early speech and language intervention.
