The Effect of Model-Based Educational Interventions on the Promotion of AIDS Preventive Behaviors in Iranian Adolescents: A Systematic Review Study |
|
| چکیده انگلیسی مقاله |
Background: AIDS is one of the deadliest infectious diseases in the world and, according to the WHO, the only effective way to prevent AIDS is health education. Accordingly, high-risk and vulnerable groups, including adolescents, should be given priority in educational programs. Objectives: This study was conducted as a systematic review aimed to investigate the effect of model-based educational interventions on the promotion of AIDS preventive behaviors in iranian adolescents. Methods: Databases including Scopus, PubMed/Medline, Web of science, ISC, Google Scholar and Persian databases such as Magiran, SID, IranDoc and IRCT were searched for eligible articles. Keywords such as "Adolescent," "Health model," "Education," "HIV," "Iran" and "Knowledge" were selected based on MESH and were combined with Boolean OR and AND operators. A total number of 2969 related articles published from 1st April 2005 to 1st May 2020 were searched, and finally, two researchers independently reviewed the articles for screening and selection. The main criteria for the inclusion of the studies were Iranian Persian and English studies and model-based educational interventions. Data extraction was performed by two researchers using a researcher-made form independently based on the inclusion criteria also the quality of articles was evaluated based on the EPHPP tool by two researchers in independent way, and if the two researchers did not agree, the discussion method was used to reach a consensus. Results: Of the 12 final articles with the total sample size of 2013 adolescents, eight were from the Iranian databases and four from the English databases. Based on the results, it was shown that although HBM is the most prevalent framework in designing educational interventions related to AIDS-preventive behaviors, it does not seem appropriate for changing long-term behaviors. It was also indicated that SCT-based educational interventions, despite increasing adolescents' awareness, have not had much effect on their attitudes. TPB-based educational interventions also improve attitudes and significantly increase rejection skills while delay risky AIDS-related suggestions in students. Conclusion: Different types of HBM, TPB and SCT educational interventions can be effective in increasing the knowledge of adolescents and promoting their HIV-related attitudes, cognitive perceptions. Given their effectiveness, the design and implementation of such interventions is recommended in schools. |
