Prospective Analysis of Cannulated Cancellous Screw Fixation in Elderly Patients for the Management of Femoral Neck Fracture |

Background: Femoral neck fractures are a common and difficult injury, especially in the elderly. The duration between the fracture and the surgery, as well as the quality of the reduction and fixation, all influences the outcome. The goal of this study was to evaluate outcomes of cannulated cancellous screw fixation for femur neck fracture and to compare them with similar studies that used the same technique. Methods: A total of 20 patients with a fracture neck of femur were enrolled in this prospective study and monitored for one year post-operatively. Harris Hip Score was used to evaluate the functional outcome. Results: As per Harris hip Score, majority of our patients were in good premorbid functional condition. 9 patients (45%) had an excellent result, 5 patients (25%) had a good result, 4 patients (20%) had a fair result, and 2 patients (10%) had a poor result. Ninety percent of our patients had a good prognosis. Conclusions: Cannulated cancellous screw fixation for the intracapsular fracture neck of femur preserves the biology and provides good functional outcomes in elderly patients. |
