Study the Nursing Care, Equipment, and Physical Setting Related to Safety in Pediatric Wards |

Introduction: Patient safety, especially in children is one of the most important issues and challenges in the field of medicine in developed and developing countries. Objective: The study will focus on the latest information regarding the safety of children in Iran pediatric wards based on nursing care, equipment, and the physical setting. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted with an analytical cross-sectional design. Data collection was performed through convenient and sequential sampling methods, using a six-part checklist, including safety-related demographic, occupational and organizational factors, nursing care, equipment, and the physical setting, from May 17 to July 17, 2019, in the pediatric wards of a referral pediatric center in Rasht, Iran. Results: The study was conducted in a total of 25 pediatric nurses, on 342 Nursing care and 5 views to equipment and physical setting related to childrenchr('39')s safety. The mean safety score of pediatric wards physical setting was 93.75. The mean scores of safeties about the emergency box, general equipment, pharmaceutical refrigerators, and monitoring equipment were 100, 100, 97.78 (SD=8.81), and 83.33 (SD=17.57), respectively. Overall, mean of the safety score for pediatric wards nursing care was 98.92. There were significant positive relationships between variables such as nurseschr('39') income (P=0.04), nursing care shift (P=0.03), overtime (P=0.05), and participation in training-safety workshops and Safety of pediatric wards nursing care. Conclusion: Increasing the motivation of nurses and holding training-safety workshops and related factors such as increasing income, reducing overtime can increase the quality of nursing care and patient safety, especially in children. |
