عنوان انگلیسی The Relationship between Coping Mechanisms and Outcome of Bariatric Surgery
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Introduction: Due to the prevalence of obesity, many patients are struggling with this disease and its comorbidities. Bariatric surgery is one of the treatment methods for morbid obesity. Psychological factors can affect the outcome of bariatric surgeries. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between coping mechanisms and the success rate of bariatric surgery in patients with obesity. Material & Methods: The research method was a prospective observational study that was performed on 85 patients who underwent bariatric surgery in the obesity clinic of Hazrat Rasoul Akram Hospital and Milad Hospital in Tehran. Subjects were evaluated before and two years after surgery with the Lazarus Folkman Coping Mechanism Questionnaire and Barros Questionnaire. Results: During the follow up 9 patients dropped out of the study because of poor cooperation. The mean age of patients was 38.11±11.5. Year (range 17 to 65 years). Problem-based coping mechanisms and all their components had a significant positive relationship with surgical success score (P < 0.05), while emotion-centered coping mechanisms had no significant relationship with surgical success rate. (P> 0.05).  Conclusion: According to the results, it can be said that coping mechanisms could be effective factors in the success rate of bariatric surgery.
