Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine Intention among Female Student in Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences |

Background and purpose: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a highly infectious virus that is transmitted mainly through sexual intercourse. The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is the most effective way to prevent HPV-related cancers. The purpose of this study was Predictors of intention to receive HPV vaccine among female students in Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences Material and method: This study was a cross-sectional study that was conducted on female students studying at the each faculty of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences (2020-2021). The participants (N=364) were selected through a quota sampling. The questionnaire comprised demographic information, health belief model (HBM) and intention questionnaire. Data were analyzed with Descriptive, Multivariate linear regression and correlation using SPSS software 2020. Results: The average age of the students participating in the study was 23.96±5.18. Most of them were single (81%). Among the students, only 3 (0.8%) had received HPV vaccine. Lowest score was related to perceive benefits (3.68±0.57) and attitude (3.64±0.57) had the highest average score. Based on the results, 33% of the intention to obtain HPV vaccine was explained by the constructs of HBM. All constructs except perceived barriers, had a statistically significant relationship with the HPV vaccine intention. Conclusion: it was concluded that beliefs and attitudes of the female students about HPV infection and HPV vaccination were low. So, we conclude that there is a need to provide education planning by covering HPV issues and their complications in courses through curriculum before student's graduation. |
