Background: Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are a group of conditions that cause dysfunction in the jaw joint. The etiology of TMDs is not well- known. These disorders have a higher prevalence in woman and younger population.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of low level laser therapy  in the treatment of temporomandibular disorders.

Methods: In this narrative review article , google scholar ، pubmed ، Scopous data bases were searched from 2020 to 2023 using the key words; temporomandibular disorders ، low level laser therapy(LLLT) ، myofascial pain (mesh terms).

Results: Among of the 271 articles which were found, only 8 articles were included in the study and 6 articles confirmed that low-level laser can be effective in the treatment of TMDs.

Conclusion: According to the results of this review, it can be said that LLLT is effective in the treatment of TMDs and its related disorders, such as masticatory muscle disorder, temporal joint pain and difficulty in jaw opening. The reviewed articles are limited and conclusions cannot be drawn certainty.
