Vertebrobasilar Dolichoectasia: A Rare Cause of Acute Ischemic Stroke and Focal Impaired Awareness Seizures |

Background Dolichoectasia of vertebrobasilar artery is a condition in which the vertebral/basilar artery is elongated, distended and tortuous. It is usually asymptomatic. It may present with compressive or ischemic symptoms. It may present with compressive or ischemic symptoms. Transient ischemic attacks(TIA) with focal cognitive seizures simultaneously as complications of vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia is very rare. More than 40% of patients with VBD are asymptomatic.
Case Report: We present a case of a 79-year-old male with dolichoectasia of the vertebrobasilar artery causing TIAs, acute ischemic stroke and recurrent focal impaired awareness seizures.
Conclusion: VBD presenting as stroke is well known in literature, but here we report a rare case of VBD presenting as seizure. |
