عنوان انگلیسی COVID-19 Pandemic Impact on Dental Care Use Patterns: Evidences from Iranian Community Health Centers
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله
Background: People’s fear of developing coronavirus has influenced their decisions to visit crowded places such as centers providing medical and dental services. We aimed to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on dental care utilization patterns in 16 of  Gonabad community health centers.
Methods:
This cross-sectional study was conducted using the data available in the 16 of Gonabad community health centers in 2019-2021 (before and during the COVID-19 pandemic). The data related to daily dental services such as check-up, tooth extraction, tooth restoration, and scaling were extracted, and then the data were statistically analyzed in SPSS-22 at the <0.05 level of significance. Independent-sample t-test was used for normal variables and Mann-Whitney test was used for other variables.
Results: This study investigated the information on 11,850 dental services provided to 8,533 clients, totally. The daily mean frequency of dental visits during the COVID-19 pandemic significantly reduced compared to the same period last year (p<0.001). The ratio of tooth extraction to total daily dental visits increased from 0.45 to 0.64 during the pandemic, whereas the ratio of tooth restoration reduced from 0.33 to 0.03 in the same period (p<0.001).
Conclusion: It seems that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused people to postpone their visits to dental care centers and also has led to a shift in dental services demand from restorative services to more invasive services.
