Background and objective: With the spread of Covid-19 in recent years, countless industries in the world have been involved in an unprecedented crisis. In order to maintain their survival and competitive position, businesses were forced to make fundamental changes in their business strategies at the same time as the economic growth rate decreased. Intelligent identification of crisis management strategies, especially in the food industry, which is considered a strategic industry, will open the way for efficient and effective decisions. Therefore, the main purpose of this research is to identify crisis management strategies of small businesses active in Iran's food industry during the Covid-19 pandemic with a mixed approach. Method: The paradigm used in the current research is pragmatic, the approach used is a combination of exploratory type and strategy used in the qualitative part, theme analysis and in the quantitative part, descriptive-survey. The qualitative community consisted of subject matter experts whose interviews continued until reaching theoretical saturation (number of 15 interviews). The statistical population of the quantitative part also consisted of 314 heads, supervisors, senior and middle managers of organizations active in the field of food production in Iran. Sampling method was done in qualitative part as snowball and in quantitative part as cluster random sampling. Findings: In the qualitative part, the number of 10 crisis management strategies in three general categories of crisis strategies; survival strategies; and resilience strategies were identified along with related subcategories. Reduction strategies, integration and communication, development and endurance for crisis strategies were identified and presented. Also, following competitors, infrastructure preparation and strategic planning and orientation for survival strategies; And finally, work, financial, marketing and human resource empowerment strategies for resilience strategies have been identified and presented. In the quantitative part, the questionnaire consisting of strategies was subjected to confirmatory factor analysis, as a result of which all the questions were confirmed. Innovation: The search of the researchers of the current research in sientific databases showed that so far no research has been found that has dealt with the identification of crisis management strategies of small businesses active in the Iranian food industry during the covid-19 pandemic with a mixed approach. Therefore, the innovation of the current research is in three directions. First, the current research has identified the crisis management strategies of small businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic. Second, crisis management strategies in Iran's food industry during the Covid-19 pandemic have been identified. Third, three types of crisis, resilience and survival strategies have been identified along with their related subcategories, while so far these strategies have not been comprehensively identified and presented in a research. Conclusion: Dealing intelligently with the crisis in the complex environment of industries requires a correct understanding and analysis of the situation and finding effective strategies. Especially the managers of the country are facing severe uncertainties due to rapid global and regional transformations and internal events. Intelligent identification of crisis management strategies, especially in the food industry, which is considered a strategic industry, will open the way for effective decisions. |
