Background: This study aimed to examine the social health of employees working in the Persian Gulf Special Economic Zone in 2023.
Methods: This study was conducted by using correlational design. A total of 237 participants were selected using cluster sampling. Data were collected using Keyes Social Well-being Scale and Perceived Social Support Scale. SPSS software version 26, and parametric, and nonparametric statistical tests were used to analyze the results.
Results: A moderate positive correlation was found between perceived social support and social health, r(237) = .397, p < .001. It indicated a medium effect. A strong positive correlation was observed between hope for the future and social health, r(237) = .715, p < .001. It indicated a large effect. A strong positive correlation was also found between generalized social trust and social health, r(237) = .620, p < .001. A moderate positive correlation was identified between social vitality and social health, r(237) = .551, p < .001. Demographic characteristics of participants revealed that 209 participants (80%) were male and 28 participants (20%) were female. Regarding education, 22 participants (9.3%) had a high school degree, 49 participants (20.67%) had a diploma degree, 31 participants (13.08%) had a college or associate's degree, 93 participants (39.24%) ) had a bachelor's degree, and 42 participants (17.72%) had postgraduate (master and ph.d) degrees. Finally, 38 participants (16%) were permanent and formally employed and 199 participants (84%) were temporary and contract employees.
Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the social health of employees working in the Persian Gulf Special Economic Zone is generally at an average level. The study also highlights the importance of “social support, social trust, hope for the future, and social vitality” in promoting employees' social health.
