Histopathological Investigation of Sarcoptes scabiei in sheep in Diyala prov-ince, Iraq |

The study focuses on the major effect of Sarcoptes scabiei, a mite causing scabies, particularly in Diyala, Iraq. The disease leads to severe symptoms such as itching, hair loss, and secondary infections, and may have negative consequences on the productivity and the quality of wool in sheep. Despite its significance, the histopathological alterations brought on by Sarcoptes scabiei in sheep are not well documented. In this article in order to investigate this issue, samples of skin were obtained from sheep affected with scabies in Diyala province. In order to document the tissue alterations brought on by the mite, the samples were stained with Eosin & Hematoxylin and inspected under the light microscope. The results revealed significant histopathological changes, including hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, neutrophil infiltration, and hemorrhage. The presence of Sarcoptes scabiei in the stratum corneum, along with follicular hyperkeratosis and acute cellular swelling, emphasizes the severe inflammation and damage to tissues caused by the infestation. |
