A Public Health Policy Brief: Prevalence of Sexual Dysfunction in Cardiovascular Patients |

Sexual dysfunction is a significant concern for individuals with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Research indicates that individuals with CVD are three times more likely to experience sexual dysfunction compared to those without these conditions. Contributing factors encompass both physical and psychological changes, as well as the side effects of medications. This policy brief is grounded in a comprehensive 17-year systematic review and meta-analysis (2003–2023) of studies published in various databases, including SID, Magiran, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science (WOS), and Google Scholar. The analysis estimates that 62.6% of CVD patients experience sexual dysfunction globally. The purpose of this brief is to inform policymakers, health authorities, and advisory groups about the prevalence of sexual dysfunction among cardiovascular patients, with the aim of improving health outcomes and quality of care. |
