Job satisfaction in nurses working in Bandar Abbas hospitals, 2003

Introduction: Nurses constitute the largest and most important community in hospitals-the main centers providing health services which have a leading role in the health of society. Job satisfaction is one of the most effective factors on quality of health services provided by nurses. The present study aimed at assessing job satisfaction of nurses in Hormozgan University hospitals.
Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 200 nurses working in Bandar Abbas hospital were randomly selected. Measuring instrument was a questionnaire to evaluate the job satisfaction and relevant affecting factors. SPSS was utilized to analyze the data.
Results: The results indicate that 3.5% of nurses were completely satisfied 5.5% of them were satisfied, 34% were not satisfied and 27% of the nurses were completely dissatisfied. Also this study indicates that there is a significant relation between job satisfaction and age, marriage status, number of children, level of education, work experience, position, ward and monthly income (p<0.05).
Conclusion: There are many factors that affect job satisfaction in nurses. It seems that health system managers should pay much more attention to nurses’ problems to solve them
