On Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at 11:58 AM, an explosion occurred in the coal winter mine in Azadshahr City of Golestan Province, northern Iran, which resulted in Mass Casualty Incident. In total, more than 126 miners were affected. 43 miners were killed by a mine blast. 73 workers who had been working to help their coworker were also injured and taken to the hospital and 10 injured people received on-site healthcare. Many gaps in response phase were identified as scene management and the arrangement of triage areas. Therefore, it seems necessary to establish a response plan for Mass Casualty Incident, perform regular education and planning to prepare involved units for appropriate responses. These measures are one of the first steps that are needed to improve preparedness and response to Mass Casualty Incident |
