عنوان انگلیسی The effect of rehabilitation interventions on sensation, function and pain of patients with carpal tunnel release: Randomized clinical trial
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is now the most common phenomenon among nerve compression neuropathies and it constitutes about 90% of neuropathic disorders. In order to reach optimal recovery following surgery a rehabilitation intervention is urgent. This study aims at investigating the efficacy of short and long-term rehabilitation interventions following carpal tunnel release (CTR) on motor functions, sensory and pain. Method: Thirty patients were randomly assigned in to two groups after CTR. The intervention group received rehabilitation exercises within a week after surgery, the control group received progressive home exercise program. Patients were assessed for pain, sensation, function, pinch and grip in three periods of time, before surgery, 6 week and 12 weeks after Surgery by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Semmes Weinstein Test of Monofilaments, Boston questionnaire test and dynamometer.  Result: No significant differences in function were seen between two groups (P=0.28). Average of pain score decreased. In spite of increase in sensory score in intervention group, no significant differences found (P=0.19). A considerable difference was found in pain, grip and pinch between the two groups at first sixth weeks after surgery. Conclusion: The result of this study states that Rehabilitation interventions even in short term, is effective on the pain and strength. Also, they lead to facilitation of getting back to work. In the long term, no great deal of diversity is considerable. It means that improvements gained in two groups are the same in long term.
