Subjective wellbeing and interpersonal problems in mothers of the students with learning disabilities: The benefits of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) |

Background: The challenges of caring the students with learning disabilities expose the mothers to mental health problems, but less attention has been paid to treatment interventions for them. The aim of the present study was to examine the effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) group training on subjective wellbeing and interpersonal relationships in mothers of the students with learning disabilities. Methods: In this experimental research, 40 mothers of the students with learning disabilities were selected through simple random sampling method and randomly divided into two experimental and control groups after observing the ethical issues. The participants completed the Subjective Well-being (Keyes and Magyar-Moe, 2003) and Interpersonal Problems Questionnaires (Barkham et al, 1996), and then multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) was used to analysis the data. Results: Results revealed significant differences between two groups (F (30, 9) = P< 0.001) in subjective wellbeing and interpersonal relationships in mothers of the students with learning disabilities. Conclusion: DBT skills training can be effective both alone and in combination with other training methods as an appropriate method for reduction of interpersonal problems and improvement of subjective wellbeing in mothers the students with learning disabilities. |
