Determining the Effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy in the Reduction of Intensity of Drug dependence and Cognitive Emotion Regulation of Addicts undergoing Methadone Treatment |

Background and Purpose: Today, one of the most important health, psychological, social and legal problems is drug addiction, the harmful effects of which are observed in different aspects of the individual, family, and society level. Current study has been conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in the reduction of intensity of drug dependence and cognitive emotion regulation in addicts undergoing methadone treatment. Method: This is a quasi-experimental study with pre-test post-test design with the control group. Subjects studied consisted of 29 subjects (16 in the experimental group and 13 in the control group) undergoing methadone treatment in one of the Drug Addiction Clinics in Kamyaran, Kurdistan province, which were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. Experimental group undergone 10 sessions of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy developed by William Segal, Tisdale (2002). Dependence Severity Index and Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire were used for data collection. Results: Results showed that mindfulness-based cognitive therapy reduces the intensity of drug dependence and has had a positive and negative cognitive emotion regulation (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy affects the intensity of drug dependence and cognitive emotion regulation. |
