Background: Nosocomial infection is a treat in the healthcare setting and some bacteria such as Acinetobacter baumannii have improve survival by developing multidrug resistance capacity. Acinetobacter baumannii is a highly virulent bacteria that is related with opportunistic infections, including low tract respiratory infection, bacteremia, pneumonia, meningitis, skin infection, and on a smaller scale, urinary tract infection. Antibiotic resistance is a major public health concern and finding new alternative against nosocomial bacteria is primordial. Prevent infection by reducing infected food is one of the main important alternative. Thus, in this study with have characterized Acinetobacter baumannii infecting foodstuff in Ardabil city and assessed the antibiotic resistance of those strains to the aim to prevent nosocomial infection. Materials and methods: Characterization was done by cell morphological tests and biochemical tests including motion and SIM sulfige-indole –motility (SIM) tests, Simmon citrate test, TSI test, and urease, catalase and oxidase test. Also, gene BlaOXA-5 was targeted with PCR in the aim to select potential multidrug resistant strains. The disk diffusion method was used to evaluate the antibiotic susceptibility of the isolates and detection of antibiotic resistance genes as β-Lactamase was conducted phenotypically and genotypically by the use of Combined Disk test and PCR. Results: Among 100 samples, 27 strains of Acinetobacter baumannii were isolated. Multidrug resistance profile was assessed and the antibiotic resistance genes β-Lactamase were detected. Conclusion: This study had as main goal to isolate Acinetobacter baumannii from infecting foodstuff in Ardabil and evaluate the MDR potential of the isolated strains. |
