Association of VEGF Gene rs2010963 C/T Polymorphism with Idiopathic Asthenozoospermia in Iranian Azeri Males |

Background: Infertility is one of the major issues in human reproduction, and male-related factors account for approximately half of all infertility cases. Genetic factors and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are the most important factors contributing to a man's infertility. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene polymorphism (rs2010963 C/T) and idiopathic infertility in Iranian Azeri men with asthenozoospermia (AZS).
Materials and Methods: The study investigated 40 men with idiopathic infertility (case group) and 40 healthy men who had successfully conceived (control group) from the East Azerbaijan, Iran population. The genomic DNA was extracted and the genotype analysis was performed by tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction (Tetra-ARMS PCR). To analyze the obtained data, statistical software was utilized.
Results: Genotype frequency in infertile individuals was 25% CC, 56.25 CT, and 18.75 TT, while 30% CC, 60% CT, and 10% TT were in control subjects. In terms of genotype and phenotypic distribution, there was no statistically significant relationship between the case and control groups.
Conclusion: Our research results indicated no significant relationship between the VEGF gene rs2010963 C/T polymorphism and idiopathic AZS in Iranian Azeri males. However, greater sample counts and more precise research on various geographical locations, races, and ethnicities are crucial. |
