Objectives: Considering the importance of positive mental health promotion in psychosocial disorders prevention, increasing physical health and productivity, it is necessary to identify the social determinants of it in order to implement the necessary interventions to improve the level of community mental health, which was one of the objectives of the present study. Methods: This study was quantitative and correlational and was conducted on adults aged 30 to 60 living in 22 districts of Tehran (the capital of Iran). The sample size was estimated to be 547 people based on G power software. The samples were selected based on a multi-stage random method. In this study, based on the review of sources and holding expert panels, the list of social determinants of positive mental health was extracted and a conceptual model was drawn. The criteria for entering each of the determinants into the modeling stage was considered to be a significance level of p ≥ 0.2, and at the end, this model was finalized using the structural equation modeling method. The tools used included the mental health continuum - short form as a dependent variable and eight questionnaires and three checklists to measure the social components of positive mental health. The data was analyzed using spss version 21 and Lisrel version 8.8. Results: The data of 607 questionnaires were analyzed. The female to male ratio was 1.02. The mean age of participants was 44.04±9.4. The mean score of positive mental health was 45.96 ± 8.65 and regarding emotional well-being, social well-being, and psychological well-being, these scores were 9.8 ± 2.54, 14.22 ± 3.41, and 21.93 ± 4.4, respectively. Based on model, the social class (B=0.181), socio-economic status (B=0.114), job position (B=0.08), per capita surface building (B=0.092) and education (B=-0.071) has indirect effect on positive mental health. Perceived stress (B=-0.62), job satisfaction (B=0.16), social support (B=0.23) and insurance (B=0.14) have direct effect on positive mental health. Conclusion: Improving the socioeconomic status through increasing social support and job satisfaction leads to an increase in the level of positive mental health, and on the other hand, the reduction of perceived stress both directly and indirectly explains the effect of structural social determinants on positive mental health. |
