عنوان انگلیسی The Effects of High-Intensity Interval and Moderate-Intensity Continuous Trainings on Autophagy, Cardiac Remodeling and Heart Function in Aged Male Rats
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله
Introduction: Aging is a physiological process affecting the heart function. Training is known as a factor accelerating the heart output specially in aged individuals. In the present experimental study, the authors aimed to assess the role of High-intensity interval training (HIIT) and Moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) on autophagy, cardiac remodeling and cardiac function.
Methods: 24 aged (≈20 months) male Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups of Control, HIIT and MICT. The special trainings of high-intensity interval and Moderate-intensity continuous were for 8 weeks. Aerobic power and training capacity were also assessed. 2 dimensional echocardiography was also applied for assessment of cardiac indices. At the end of the experiment, tissue sampling of cardiac tissue was applied and gene expression was assessed using qRT-PCR technique. Data were analyzed using SPSS (v.19) software.
Results: After HIIT and MICT trainings, no significant changes were detected regarding the animal weight. Also, mTORC1, Atg16, and Atg7 gene expression and EF and FS were accelerated in HIIT and MICT groups than control animals. Besides, COLIII gene expression, LVEDD, and LVESD were increased significantly (p<0.05) in HIIT and MICT animals than control.
Conclusion: Training can potentially improve the cardiac output in elderly. Besides, the HIIT seems effective than MICT.
