Introduction: There has been an increase in publications focusing on physical symptoms after delivery, such as dyspareunia, lack of lubrication, and loss of sexual satisfaction. Objective: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of BETTER and the PLISSIT counseling model in women with sexual problems after childbirth. Materials and Methods: A two-group randomized, single-blind clinical trial was conducted in 8 health care centers in Mashhad City, Iran. A total of 80 eligible married women within the period of 4 weeks to 6 months after childbirth, with sexual problems, were recruited and randomized into the two groups (40 women in each group). PLISSIT and BETTER models consisted of two 90-minute sessions at an interval of 1 week. The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was assessed at the beginning and 4 weeks after the last session. The data analysis was done using the independent t test and analysis of covariance. P values less than 0.05 were considered significant. Results: The mean ± SD ages of women were 29.7±5.5 years in the BETTER group and 31.7±5.4 years in the PLLISIT group. The domain of sexual satisfaction after the intervention in the BETTER group was significant (P=0.015). The covariance analysis showed that the effect of the group on sexual satisfaction was significant (Cohen d= 0.078, P=0.015). Conclusion: The finding confirms the effectiveness of the BETTER counseling model compared to the PLISSIT model in improving sexual satisfaction among women after childbirth. |
